Three Ideas for 2D Design
One idea is to have students design their own phone wallpaper. They can use color, shape, composition, and words or symbols to express their personality, current mood, or something that motivates them. Since students look at their phones so often, this could make the project feel personal and meaningful.
Another idea is to have students create album cover art for a playlist they made themselves. They can think about how to visually represent the mood, theme, or feeling of the music through images, color choices, and composition. This could be a good way for students to explore how design can communicate emotion and identity.
For advanced classes, I think redesigning the UX/UI of an app they often use could also be really interesting. They could choose one screen from an app and redesign it to make it easier to use or more visually appealing. This would help students think not only about how something looks, but also how design affects function, clarity, and user experience.
