I used Adobe Illustrator to design a T-shirt for myself using images that represent comfort and calm. For the front design, I drew a cup of relaxing tea with lemon slices and mint leaves using a basic oval shape and the pen tool. I wanted the image to feel soft and warm so that looking at it could relieve stress. The lemon and rain elements reflect that life does not always go the way we want, but our mindset can shape how we navigate those moments. I was thinking about the saying "when life gives you lemons" and wanted to turn it into something softer and more personal. On the back of the T-shirt, I placed a lemon sitting on a sofa. For me, this image suggests rest and the feeling of letting difficult moments pass with time. I hadn't used Illustrator for a long time, but as I continued using the tools, I slowly started to remember how it works. I also enjoyed working with vector images because they stay clean and do not get pixelated, which made the design process feel more flexible.
Jiwon, your T-shirt design is so adorable. Your color choice makes the whole design feel very warm, gentle, and cozy, and I think it’s really clever how you used lemons and a rainy cloud to express the idea that life does not always go as we expect. I agree with you that vector images give viewers a clean visual experience and can be a great way to communicate messages clearly.
ReplyDeleteDear Jiwon,
ReplyDeleteAt first sight, the pair of t-shirts immediately formed a harmony and create the feeling of a series with the common element of lemons. Having to see the different ways the lemon slices are immersed in everyday activities really shows how important the simple fruit and its symbolization are for the person wearing it, and of course, for the person who designed it. Nonetheless, the colours and use of curvy lines/shapes emphasize the feel of comfort and coziness.
Thank you for sharing your work.
Hi Jiwon! Your idea to give these designs a sense of place and object-ness is so great! I can imagine wearing this shirt while sipping on a nice cup of tea before bed. The colors are so soft and dynamic, and the bold pops of green and orange really balance out the composition. One detail I really enjoy is the reflection of the fruit in the tea - your ability to communicate through design is very strong!
